Location

A special terroir

Steep slope with a fabulous view.

Gran Buel is situated at an elevation of 800 meters above sea-level, and affords a fantastic view of the provincial capital of Bolzano, the "Unterland" district of South Tyrol, and the Sarentino Gorge. The steep slopes have a 70% grade and are perfectly suited to the cultivation of grapes. The slopes have a southwest exposure, are especially sunny, enjoy the mild Ora wind from Lake Garda, and also benefit from the cool wind coming down from the higher elevations. The mixture of sandy and clayey porphyry provides ideal conditions for growing grapes. This slightly alkaline, volcanic soil runs deep. Its special composition – in combination with the necessary know-how and enological skills – are what enables the family to produce wines featuring a notable mineral quality. Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc grapes thrive here. But cultivating these grapes still requires a lot of manual labor, care, and calm.
